A three-alarm fire that erupted Tuesday in a Riverside condominium complex caused extensive damage but no reported injuries before it was stopped.

The blaze was reported at 3:15 p.m. at the Mission Villas in the 200 block of Alessandro Boulevard, near Mission Grove Parkway, in the southeast quarter of the city, according to the Riverside Fire Department.

The agency said multiple engine crews and at least one truck company were sent to the location and encountered heavy smoke and flames on the second floor of the building, which had been evacuated.

Firefighters quickly accessed the structure and found the flames impacting at least two units, spreading into the attic space above both, according to reports from the scene.

The blaze was declared contained at 4 p.m. A few minutes later, it was under control, officials said.

Riverside police units were providing traffic control around the complex.

It was not immediately clear how many occupants were displaced.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
