Former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to deliver the keynote speech at the fourth annual World Patient Safety, Science & Technology Summit Saturday in Dana Point.

Clinton has participated in the annual summit since its inception. The organization seeks to reduce medical errors that harm hospital patients.

“Our Patient Safety Movement began as a commitment to zero preventable deaths by 2020 at the Clinton Global Initiative meeting in 2012,” said Joe Kiani, founder of the Patient Safety Movement Foundation. “This summit is not just about information — it’s about commitment and action.

“We confront the biggest patient safety challenges and co-develop and share tested solutions that can dramatically improve patient safety and significantly reduce cost of care.

“We are honored to have leading institutions from many countries join the movement including Brazil, England, Germany, Mexico, Scotland, and Spain. The exciting part is that this global movement has saved many lives in a relatively short amount of time and we are just beginning to see the results of many of the commitments.”

The speech is part of a health-related swing Clinton is making through California as his foundation will conduct its annual Health Matters Activation Summit at the Renaissance Indian Wells Resort & Spa in Indian Wells on Sunday and Monday.

Monday’s session of the Clinton Foundation’s summit in Indian Wells will feature recently retired women’s soccer star Abby Wambach.
