A brush fire that erupted Thursday along Highway 74 in Homeland, threatening several structures, charred almost three acres before it was stopped.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 11:50 a.m. Thursday on the eastbound side of the highway, between Melba and White avenues, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a slow rate through grass in the immediate vicinity of homes and a gas station.

Firefighters deployed to prevent the blaze from reaching the structures, stopping its forward rate of spread at 12:15 p.m., according to officials at the scene.

No damage was reported, and the highway remained open.

Full containment was expected by 1 p.m.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
