A probationer was behind bars Monday in connection with a shooting death in Huntington Beach over the weekend.
Shots fired were reported about 2:25 p.m. Sunday in the area of Ash Lane and Mandrell Drive, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department.
“Responding officers located an adult male victim suffering from gunshot wounds,” according to department spokesman Corbin Carson. “He was transported to a local trauma center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.”
The victim was identified as 42-year-old Ryan Daniel Ennis of Anaheim, according to Orange County Sheriff’s Sgt. Gerard McCann.
Investigators identified Luis Angel Mireles, 28, of Santa Ana, as a person of interest, and caught up with him about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Carson said,.
“Based on interviews and evidence collected at the scene, Mireles was arrested and booked at the Huntington Beach City Jail (on suspicion of murder and a probation violation),” Carson said.
Mireles has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 2016 and had pending cases against him for possessing a deadly weapon and illegal substance in jail as well as manufacturing a deadly weapon in custody, all felonies, according to court records. He had been released from jail Oct. 17, according to jail records.
Mireles is also facing a felony count of stalking with a restraining order, a felony, and a misdemeanor count of reckless driving.
In a probation violation petition in June he was accused of sending a woman pictures of guns.
Mireles pleaded guilty to fleeing police and reckless driving in October of last year. He was on probation in that case until September of next year.
According to the June probation violation petition, he has a prior criminal history of possessing guns, ammunition and promoting a gang.
