Two suspects, one of them a 17-year-old boy, were arrested for allegedly forcing their way into a Costa Mesa motorcycle shop, fleeing with a motorcycle.

The theft occurred about 4 a.m. Sunday at Mach 1 Motorcycles in the 100 block of East 16th Street, said Costa Mesa police Lt. Greg Scott.

“The suspects forced entry through the roof top and lowered themselves in,” Scott said.

They were inside the business for about 20 minutes and stole a motorcycle, two helmets and a leather jacket, Scott said.

“They attempted, but were unsuccessful, stealing a second motorcycle from the business,” he said. “The juvenile burglary suspect fled the scene on the stolen motorcycle.”

The adult suspect, identified as 19-year-old Mark Burlingham of Newport Beach, fled on foot after being unable to get a second motorcycle started, Scott said.

Burglary tools were recovered at the scene and the crime was recorded by a surveillance camera, he said.

Detectives conducting a follow-up investigation arrested both suspects today at separate locations and the stolen motorcycle and other items were recovered, Scott said.

The name of the juvenile, a resident of Costa Mesa, was withheld because of his age.
