To help prevent traffic collisions over the New Year’s holiday, the Walter Clark Legal Group will cover the cost of cab and rideshare trips in the Coachella Valley.

The Safe Ride Home program will operate from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday. It reimburses up to $50 for a one-way trip taken by cab or Lyft in the Coachella Valley cities of Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Cathedral City, Desert Hot Springs, Rancho Mirage, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Bermuda Dunes, Indio and Coachella.

“I have, and just about everybody I know has, at some time driven when they shouldn’t, and the reason that happens is that after you have a drink, you think you’re fine. That’s the effect of impairment,” Walter Clark, founder of the legal group, said in a statement. “If you see somebody who doesn’t look like they should be driving, get them a Lyft or cab ride home, and we’ll pay for it.”

The program does not apply to Uber rides. Officials said they do not support Uber due to what they described as the company’s disregard for consumer rights.

The program is valid for one-way rides from a residence, bar or restaurant to a safe destination, such as a hotel or residence, within eligible cities. Reimbursements are limited to one per household per day.

Participants must be at least 21, possess a valid driver’s license and register for a reimbursement coupon at: www.eventbrite.com/e/new-years-eve-safe-ride-home-sponsored-by-walter-clark-legal-group-tickets-1977298662527.
