A man who ended up under a light rail train at a Metro station in East Hollywood Wednesday morning was in critical condition when rescuers freed him and took him to a hospital.
The man, thought to be about 40, ended up under the train around 11:10 a.m. Wednesday at 1015 N. Vermont Ave., at Metro’s Vermont/Santa Monica Station, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department and Metro officials.
“This morning, a person attempted to jump between rail cars as a train entered the Metro B/D Line Vermont/Santa Monica Station,” according to a Metro statement.
Los Angeles Fire Department and Metro personnel had to figure out how to get to the patient, who was in a relatively inaccessible area, according to LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart. Los Angeles police also responded.
It took about 30 minutes to free the man, who was in critical condition when taken to a hospital, Stewart said.
The rescue disrupted service at the station and buses were deployed to transport riders between the Hollywood Western and North Hollywood stations and from Hollywood Western to Union Station in downtown Los Angeles.
