An investigation was underway Monday after a man was found dead next to a flood control channel in the Willowbrook area of southeast Los Angeles County.

The death was reported at 12:22 a.m. in the 1300 block of East 120th Street between Elva and Parmelee avenues, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by LA County Fire Department paramedics, sheriff’s officials said. His name and age were not released.

The man was in what appeared to be a homeless encampment, sheriff’s officials said. The Medical Examiner’s office will determine cause of death.
