A large cache of firearms was seized Tuesday morning during the service of a search warrant at a Lincoln Heights home whose resident identified himself as a gun collector.
Officers went to a home in the 3400 block of Manitou Avenue at 4:25 a.m. Tuesday to execute a warrant, according to an officer with the Los Angeles Police Department.
The warrant was served by investigators with the LAPD’s Guns and Narcotics Division, according to the officer in the department’s Media Relations Division.
The homeowner told CBS2 that the gun seizure stemmed from an arrest he had back in July, when he was booked on suspicion of having a gun in public without a concealed carry permit.
He pleaded the charge down to a misdemeanor and served 11 days in jail, but didn’t realize he was supposed to surrender other weapons he owned, he said. He added that he obtained all the weapons legally and all are permitted.
Over 40 weapons were taken from the garage. The owner was not arrested.
The LAPD told the station the owner is not believed to be tied to any criminal or violent activity, but he’s a “prohibited possessor.”
“It’s a large amount of weapons that were seized, and they’re going to be held as evidence. He’s going to have his right to due process, you know, to possibly get the weapons back,” Lt. Frank Marino told CBS2.
