An investigation was underway Tuesday to confirm the ignition source of a fire that erupted in a Jurupa Valley apartment building, significantly damaging multiple units and displacing 14 residents.
The non-injury blaze was reported shortly before 4 p.m. Monday in the 3000 block of Emma Street, across from Country Club Drive, near the Pomona (60) Freeway on the north end of the city, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said more than a dozen engine and ladder truck crews were sent to the location and encountered “heavy smoke from the single-story multi-unit structure.”
The occupants had safely evacuated with their pets.
Firefighters worked the blaze from the interior and exterior, battling the flames for more than two hours before knocking them down, according to officials.
By sunset Monday, the fire was completely extinguished, and after crews finished mopping up, Jurupa Valley Building Department safety inspectors assessed the structure, deeming nine units “uninhabitable due to the loss of power, smoke and fire damage,” according to the fire department.
Red Cross personnel were requested to assist the 14 displaced occupants with finding temporary alternate lodgings.
