A 22-year-old Torrance man pleaded guilty Friday to a hit-and-run collision that injured two men in Anaheim.
Hassan Hamid Ali pleaded guilty to reckless driving causing injury and hit-and-run with injury, both felonies, as well as a misdemeanor count of assault with a deadly weapon. Ali also admitted sentencing enhancements for inflicting great bodily injury on the victims.
Officers responded to State College Boulevard and Orangewood Avenue about 2 a.m. Nov. 1, 2024, regarding reports of reckless driving. When officers arrived they saw hundreds of vehicles and pedestrians blocking the intersection, police said in testimony at the defendant’s preliminary hearing.
Officers saw signs of tire tracks from vehicles doing donuts in the area, police said.
The two 19-year-old men seriously injured in a collision with a Dodge Charger had “bloodied faces” and “severe burns,” police said. One of the men suffered a broken leg with a bone sticking out.
The victims, who were spectators, were struck by a Dodge Charger that spun out of control, trapping them under the car for a short time, police said. The incident was caught on video that was posted to social media.
Ali is scheduled to be sentenced May 22.
