A 62-year-old woman who was struck and killed in a hit-and-run collision while crossing a street in South Los Angeles, has been identified, authorities announced Friday.
Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to Manchester and Vermont avenues at 12:52 a.m. Thursday regarding reports of a woman lying in the street. Witnesses told arriving officers the vehicle was traveling west on Manchester when it struck the pedestrian near Vermont, an LAPD officer told City News Service.
The driver drove away and did not stop to help the victim, police said.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene and police did not release a vehicle description.
The woman was identified Friday by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner as Lavona Graham, who sustained blunt trauma injuries.
The department’s West Traffic Bureau is investigating the fatal collision.
