An inmate who was being treated for an unspecified illness died while in custody after their health declined, authorities announced Wednesday.
The inmate, who was admitted to a hospital for long-term treatment of an existing diagnosed illness in January, was pronounced dead on Tuesday by physicians, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s officials said deputies assigned to the Robert Presley Detention Center provided security based on the inmate’s custody status, and during treatment of the illness, the inmate’s health declined.
Investigators from the Riverside Sheriff’s Corrections Central Investigations Unit received notification of the in-custody death and have assumed the investigation.
Sheriff’s officials said the inmate’s name was being withheld pending notification of relatives.
Anyone with information regarding the case was encouraged to call Investigator Brett Devine at 951-955-7019.
