The U.S. Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach was among the agencies responding to a fire aboard a non-operational natural gas platform located offshore of Santa Barbara Monday.
The fire was reported around 6:30 a.m. Monday on Platform Habitat while personnel were conducting decommissioning operations, according to the US Coast Guard. the fire was extinguished at about 11:40 a.m., based on reports from responders and platform personnel.
There were no indications of oil being released into the water and no reported impacts to wildlife or the public, officials said, noting that an investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the fire.
Platform Habitat is located about eight miles southwest of Santa Barbara.
Other agencies involved in the response also included the U.S. Coast Guard Southwest District, U.S. Coast Guard Station Channel Islands, Ventura County Fire Department, Ventura City Fire Department, Santa Barbara County Fire Department, Santa Barbara City Fire Department, Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, and Marine Spill Response Corp., officials said.
