Opera star Renée Fleming’s planned June 20 recital at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion has been reimagined as a Sept. 22 concert collaboration with banjo virtuoso Béla Fleck at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
The concert, “Renée Fleming with Béla Fleck: The Fiddle and the Drum,” will be co-presented by LA Opera and the Los Angeles Philharmonic and will celebrate Appalachian folk traditions through mountain songs, ballads and folk hymns, according to organizers.
The performance will feature Fleck’s Grammy-winning My Bluegrass Heart ensemble along with Grammy-winning vocalist Aoife O’Donovan, organizers said.
The concert is tied to the release of Fleming and Fleck’s upcoming album, “The Fiddle and the Drum,” scheduled for release next Friday.
The pair recently debuted the collaboration at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry and are scheduled to perform at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, the Spoleto Festival in Charleston and Carnegie Hall later this year.
Tickets for the Sept. 22 performance at Walt Disney Concert Hall will go on sale to LA Opera and LA Phil patrons on June 10 and to the general public on June 11.
Patrons holding tickets for the originally scheduled June 20 recital will be contacted regarding reseating or refund options.
