A 27-year-old man was charged Friday with a fatal DUI crash in Fullerton.
Alexander Ortuno was charged with second-degree murder, driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury and driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit of .08%, all felonies. He also faces a sentencing enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury on two victims.
Ortuno was accused of killing 62-year-old Irma Pedraza Guillen in a crash just after midnight April 15, 2024 at Orangethorpe Avenue and Harbor Boulevard.
Guillen was a passenger in a Toyota Rav4 rear-ended by a BMW 428i driven by Ortuno, according to police.
Ortuno was southbound in the left lane when he crashed into the rear of the Toyota at a red light, police said. Ortuno also collided with a Chevrolet Silverado stopped at the light.
Police said Ortuno was speeding and was driving under the influence, police said.
Prosecutors alleged in the criminal complaint Ortuno was driving in excess of 100 mph when he ran a red light.
Ortuno pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Friday. He was next due in court Aug. 5 for a pretrial hearing in the North Justice Center in Fullerton.
