A malfunctioning air-conditioning unit emitted light smoke that circulated inside a building at the Pechanga Resort Casino Friday, prompting fears of a possible fire until the problem was identified.
The non-injury incident was reported at 2:34 p.m. Friday inside the Human Resources Center for the resort, located at 45421 Pechanga Resort Drive, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said that tribal fire personnel were first to arrive and investigate the fire alarm, followed by several engine crews and a truck company from the county.
Resort spokeswoman Ciara Green told City News Service that “a loose belt in an (HVAC) unit” caused the unit to malfunction and emit smoke, triggering the alarm.
She said on-site facilities management workers isolated the source of the trouble as firefighters checked for hazards. The workers repaired the unit, after which operations in the building resumed.
