Actor Javier Bardem was honored with a hand and footprint ceremony Tuesday at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
Filmmakers Michael Mann and Denis Villeneuve participated in the ceremony honoring Bardem, whose credits include “No Country for Old Men,” “Skyfall,” “Dune,” “Being the Ricardos,” “Biutiful” and “Before Night Falls.”
“It’s safe to assume that I certainly never imagined standing here at the historic TCL Chinese Theatre preparing to put my hands and feet in cement,” Bardem said at Tuesday’s ceremony. “It’s an honor to be part of this remarkable Hollywood tradition to be included amongst so many extraordinary artists who have left a lasting impact on our cinema.”
Bardem won the Academy Award for best supporting actor for his portrayal of Anton Chigurh in the Coen brothers’ “No Country for Old Men” and has received Oscar nominations for “Being the Ricardos,” “Biutiful” and “Before Night Falls.”
His film credits also include “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” “The Sea Inside,” “Dune: Part Two,” “The Little Mermaid” and “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile.”
“There is something about the energy of getting together to create a film that is very unique,” Bardem said.
“The focus, the way everyone works together toward a single shared vision, feels more alive to me than anything else I have ever experienced in my life. That’s what I love about making movies — the union, the thing where you are part of something way bigger and more important than yourself.”
Before introducing Bardem at the ceremony, Mann said, “Whether it’s a role of immense scale or deep intimacy, it’s your truth that makes the characters you occupy come alive.”
He added, “I am honored to celebrate the unique path you have blazed as an artist, the incomparable body of work and everything you’re still to achieve.”
Bardem currently executive produces and stars in the upcoming Apple TV+ limited series “Cape Fear” alongside Amy Adams.
He recently starred in “F1: The Movie” alongside Brad Pitt and appeared in “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” earning Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for his portrayal of Jose Menendez.
Upcoming projects include “The Beloved,” which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, and “Dune: Part Three,” scheduled for release Dec. 18, according to organizers.
“Beyond the screen, Bardem is an outspoken humanitarian, using his platform to advocate for human rights, environmental protection, and global peace,” organizers said in a statement. “A dedicated supporter of Greenpeace, he has campaigned to protect Antarctica and raise awareness around climate change.”
Organizers said Bardem was recognized for his advocacy with the 2025 United Nations Correspondents Association Global Citizen of the Year Award for his support of journalists and humanitarian efforts in Gaza.
