The city of Monterey Park announced Thursday the launch of an air purifier reimbursement program for income-qualified residents who purchased the devices in response to smoke from the Boyle Heights warehouse fire.
Eligible residents may receive up to $75 for qualifying air purifier purchases made between June 17 and June 28, according to city officials.
Applications will be accepted from Monday through July 31, with funding available on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants must provide proof of Monterey Park residency, income eligibility and an original purchase receipt.
“Protecting the health and well-being of our residents remains a top priority,” Mayor Elizabeth Yang said in a statement. “We recognize that many families incurred unexpected expenses to safeguard indoor air quality during the recent fire. This program is intended to help offset those costs for households most impacted by the incident.”
The reimbursement program is available to households meeting income guidelines established by the city. The maximum gross annual income is $43,280 for one- or two-person households, $54,640 for a three-person household and $66,000 for a family of four, city officials said.
The Lineage Logistics warehouse fire erupted last week and burned for eight days before firefighters declared a knockdown Wednesday evening.
