A human trafficking suspect was taken into custody Thursday following a pursuit that ended with a rollover crash on the Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway, forcing the closure of the eastbound freeway and creating a miles-long traffic backup during the afternoon rush hour.
Officers initiated the short-lived chase at about 3:40 p.m. Thursday, but it only lasted about 30 seconds before the suspect crashed on the eastbound 105 Freeway near the Harbor (110) Freeway in South Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The suspect’s vehicle rolled onto its side against the center freeway median.
Police gathered outside the vehicle, uncertain of the condition of the suspect, who could be seen occasionally moving inside. All eastbound lanes of the freeway were closed as the brief standoff ensued.
A short time later, officers slowly approached the vehicle with weapons drawn and pulled the suspect from the car and took him into custody.
The Los Angeles Fire Department told City News Service that at least one person was taken to a hospital following the crash — likely the suspect.
