A 42-year-old Anaheim man was charged Friday with killing his girlfriend.
Oscar Velasquez, who will turn 43 Aug. 31, was charged with murder and possession of a gun by a felon and theft of a car with a prior conviction, all felonies. He also faces a sentencing enhancement for using a knife in the killing.
Velasquez was accused of killing 38-year-old Jasmine Miranda of Anaheim, according to Anaheim Police Department Sgt. Eric Anderson.
Police were called about 12:50 p.m. Tuesday to the Kona Motel at 331 N. Broookhurst St., near the Dad Miller Golf Course, for a check on Miranda, Anderson said. Miranda was pronounced dead at the motel, he added.
Police tracked down Velasquez on Wednesday in Santa Ana and he was booked on suspicion of murder, Anderson said.
Velasquez was accused of stealing a Nissan Versa.
Velasquez pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four years in prison in September 2021 to a felony count and a misdemeanor count of assault with a deadly weapon as well as felony counts of hit-and-run with injury and car theft with a prior conviction. He also admitted a sentencing enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury on a victim he struck with a GMC Sierra, according to court records.
Velasquez refused to be transported to court Friday, so his arraignment was rescheduled for Monday in the North Justice Center in Fullerton.
