A suspect who prompted police to open fire on him when he allegedly backed a vehicle into two officers in Pasadena was behind bars Friday, but it took a K-9 unit to get him into custody.
Pasadena resident Keith Trevon Anderson, 32, was being held without bail at the city jail, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department online inmate information.
The trouble began in a parking lot in the 200 block of Oakland Avenue around 9:05 p.m. Thursday when officers attempted to stop the vehicle of a suspect who was wanted in connection with an assault with a deadly weapon investigation, according to the Pasadena Police Department.
The driver “backed his vehicle into two Pasadena Police vehicles, injuring an officer,” police said.
“During the incident, an officer-involved shooting occurred,” police said in a prepared statement. “No officers, suspects or members of the public were struck by gunfire.”
It was unclear how many officers opened fire or how many rounds were discharged, but the suspect remained in the vehicle afterward and did not comply with commands to exit.
“After continued efforts to gain his compliance, a Pasadena Police K-9 was deployed, and the suspect was taken into custody,” police said. “The injured officer was transported to a hospital for medical treatment and was subsequently released.”
Anderson was transported taken to a hospital for medical treatment before being booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.
A passenger who had been in the vehicle was also taken to a hospital, where he was treated for minor abrasions and released.
Police subsequently arrested him on an unrelated outstanding warrant, also for assault with a deadly weapon.
A loaded handgun was recovered from the suspect’s vehicle.
