The Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office Sunday released the name of the second person killed in a single-vehicle crash in Encino that killed two people, authorities said.
That person was identified as Jonathan Garcia Murillo, 25, according to the agency’s website, which did not release the decedent’s city of residence.
A white Honda Civic struck a tree around 2 a.m. Friday near Balboa and Burbank boulevards, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson said. Paramedics dispatched to the location pronounced two people dead at the scene, said Jennifer Middleton of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Murillo and Johana Portillo Membreno, 35, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the medical examiner’s office.
Victor Cruz, a witness to the collision, told a videographer at the scene that he saw the vehicle drive around a curve at around 60 mph before driving off the road and colliding with the tree. Cruz said he attempted to help the people in the car and saw that the collision sent the engine onto the passenger seat.
Video from the scene showed the vehicle nearly broken in half with sides of the car on either side of the tree.
