Issur Danielovitch turned 101 Saturday, and his family celebrated at his home in Beverly Hills. He’s better known as Kirk Douglas.
Son Michael Douglas said on Facebook. “At 101, Dad is a true amazement and a great time was had by all.”
Also reportedly attending were Kirk’s wife, Anne, 98, son Joel, and granddaughter Kelsey.
Daughter-in-law Catherine Zeta-Jones couldn’t make the party, but sent greetings via Instagram: “101 today!!!! “Happy Birthday to my wonderful, inspirational and loving father in law, Kirk. Love you with all my heart.”
HuffPost said the family served a Vincent van Gogh-themed birthday cake to reference Douglas’ role in the 1956 film “Lust for Life” about the artist.
“Another cake was crafted to look like two boxing gloves à la ‘Champion,’ the film that earned Douglas his first Academy Award nomination for playing a ruthless fighter,” HuffPost said.
The cake’s inscription: “Happy Birthday to the Champion.”
Douglas was known early on for starring roles in films in the 1950s and 1960s. “Spartacus,” “Gunfights at the O.K. Corral” and “Seven Days in May” were some of his blockbuster hits. He suffered a stroke some years ago, but has continued to make public appearances.
