A woman struck and killed by a vehicle while walking across a street in Thermal was publicly identified Tuesday.
Veronica Rosales, 26, of Thermal, was struck at about 8:10 p.m. Sunday on Avenue 66, east of Tyler Street, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Radford.
Rosales was crossing Avenue 66 when she was struck by a 2007 Chrysler 300 driven by 26-year-old Coachella resident Oscar Arias.
Rosales, who was pronounced dead at the scene, reportedly was dressed in black when she was struck on the westbound side of the street, according to the CHP. Arias and his passenger, a 22-year-old Thermal man, were uninjured. Arias was not intoxicated at the time of the crash and was not arrested as a result, Radford said.
CHP is still investigating whether or not Rosales may have been intoxicated when the crash occurred.
Officers asked anyone with information on the ongoing crash investigation to contact the Indio CHP office at (760) 772-5300.
