Los Angeles Fire Department Public Information Officer Brian Humphrey has been named chair of the board that governs Metrolink.
Humphrey is a 33-year LAFD veteran and a Ventura County Transportation Commission representative. He joined the Southern California Regional Rail Authority, the governing body of Metrolink, in 1997.
Humphrey is the board’s longest-serving member and has more than two decades experience on the VCTC, according to Metrolink.
“This is such an exciting time in Metrolink’s history, with the full implementation of Positive Train Control to couple with Metrolink’s unsurpassed commitment to safety,” Humphrey said.
“Living in Ventura County and working in Los Angeles, I am a frequent commuter on Metrolink. I hope to bring that perspective above all, while making certain our board and our agency continues to always place our riders first.”
Humphrey replaces outgoing chair, Andrew Kotyuk, the mayor pro tem of San Jacinto who is the board’s representative for the Riverside County Transportation Commission.
Glendale City Council member Ara Najarian was elected vice chair and Highland Mayor Pro Tem Larry McCallon was chosen as second vice chair, according to Metrolink.
All three will serve one-year terms but can serve two if re-elected in 2020.
