Returning for its 20th year, the Arthur Lyons FilmNoir Festival will celebrate moody plots and menacing characters with a gala Thursday evening, followed by three days of movies exploring an eclectic mix of both popular and obscure titles from the black and white film era.
Cake and a welcome toast will kick off the annual celebration of sultry classics beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Palm Springs Cultural Center, organizers said.
“The Night of the Hunter” will be the first film shown, setting the tone for the rest of the festival as it dives into the world of “an odious sociopath posing as a devout country minister who attempts to reap a secret bounty hidden by two innocent children.”
Special guest Kathy Garver, an actress with more than 60 years of experience who played an uncredited child in the film, will usher in the movie that promises a “fantasia of good and evil,” according to festival organizers.
One movie will be screened at the festival Thursday evening, followed by 11 more through Sunday, with the first show at 10 a.m. each day.
