Holiday revelers in parts of the Southland will have some poor air quality to deal with Thursday, with unhealthy conditions for all individuals in the San Gabriel Valley, Pomona and Walnut Valley.
Air quality also will be unhealthy for sensitive individuals in Central, South Central and Southeast Los Angeles County, and in Santa Clarita Valley Thursday, according to the South Coast Air Quality Management District.
People living or working in these areas with heart disease, asthma or other respiratory diseases are urged to minimize outdoor activities. Children who have sensitive conditions, including heart disease, asthma, and other chronic respiratory diseases, should not participate in outdoor physical activity and should stay indoors as much as possible, according to Los Angeles County Health Officer. Dr. Muntu Davis.
Additionally, air quality was likely to reach very unhealthy levels in areas throughout Los Angeles County later Thursday and through Friday, due to fireworks related to Independence Day celebrations. Fireworks are known to emit high levels of particulate matter as well as metal air pollutants that can contribute to negative health effects.
