The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped Friday for the eighth consecutive day, decreasing 2.4 cents to $4.197.
The average price has dropped 10.5 cents over the past eight days, including 2.4 cents on Thursday, its largest daily decrease since Dec. 18, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
The decreases follow a seven-day stretch of increases totaling 75.7 cents that pushed the average price to its highest amount since May 4, 2014.
The average price is 9.5 cents less than one week ago but 60.9 cents more than one month ago and 15.9 cents higher than one year ago.
“In just two weeks, Los Angeles wholesale gasoline prices have plunged by 80 cents, which should further encourage gas stations to drop their prices significantly barring any other crisis,” said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager.
The Orange County average price also dropped for the eighth consecutive day, decreasing 2.2 cents to $4.175. It has dropped 10 cents over the past eight days, including 2.3 cents on Thursday, its largest daily decrease since June 6.
The Orange County average price is 9.2 cents less than one week ago, but 65.5 cents more than one month ago and 16.6 cents higher than one year ago.
