BNP Paribas is renewing its sponsorship of the annual Indian Wells tennis tournament through 2023, making it the longest running title sponsor in the tournament’s history.

The France-based bank, which began its sponsorship of the tournament in 2009, also sponsors the French Open, the Davis Cup, Internazionali BNL d’Italia, the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters and the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore.

The 2018 tournament wrapped up Sunday at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, just as the bank announced news of the sponsorship renewal.

“The title sponsorship of the BNP Paribas Open has proved itself a success and continues to deliver a level of quality that aligns with BNP Paribas’ values,” said Jean-Yves Fillion, CEO of BNP Paribas USA. “The event has expanded immensely, and along with Bank of the West, led by Nandita Bakhshi, we look forward to being part of its ongoing growth. Our engagement with the event reflects our business commitment to California and throughout the U.S. where we employ 16,000 people; and to the sport of tennis where we are recognized as one of the leading global sponsors. Together, we are proud to be a part of a world-class experience that is enjoyed by so many of our customers, team members, and fans.”

In addition to extending its association with the tennis tournament, the sponsorship renewal also continues BNP Paribas’ annual scholarship program in the Coachella Valley, offering $15,000 grants to two local high school students. This year’s grants went to Desert Mirage High School students Jade Rios and Jennifer Gomez.

In 2019, the program will be expanded to a third Coachella Valley student, in celebration of the bank’s third term of partnership with the BNP Paribas Open.

“We are delighted to extend our partnership with BNP Paribas as title sponsor of the tournament,” Tournament Director Tommy Haas said. “Our goal is to keep refining, improving and expanding this world-class event, and having a partner that embraces  that vision is incredibly important. We look forward to continuing to work with BNP Paribas in the coming years to build upon the great foundation we have laid together over the past decade.”
