Assemblyman Matthew Harper, R-Costa Mesa, was narrowly ahead on Election Day, but after counting about 20,000 ballots Thursday fell behind Democrat Cottie Petrie-Norris.
On election night, Harper was leading with 50.3 percent to Petrie-Norris’ 49.7 percent.
The Orange County Registrar of Voters received about 3,000 mail-in ballots on Thursday. After tallying 20,000 votes on Thursday that leaves about 400,000 more countywide to count, Orange County Registrar of Voters Neal Kelley said.
Democrat Katie Porter picked up votes on Thursday in her tight race with Rep. Mimi Walters, R-Irvine. On election night she trailed 48.3 percent to 51.7 percent, but after Thursday the margin was 51 percent to 49 percent for Walters.
Democratic real estate investor Harley Rouda expanded his lead on Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Huntington Beach, on Thursday.
On election night, Rouda led 50.7 percent to 49.3 percent for Rohrabacher. On Thursday, the margin was 51.2 percent to 48.8 percent for Rouda over the incumbent.
Democrat Doug Chaffee, the mayor of Fullerton, ate into the narrow lead of Republican Tim Shaw, the mayor of La Habra, in the nonpartisan race the Fourth District seat on the Orange County Board of Supervisors.
On election night, Shaw led with 50.9 percent of the vote to 49.1 percent for Chaffee.
After Thursday’s count, Shaw had a 50.8 percent to 49.2 percent.
