Singer Wayne Newton will be honored Friday with a spot on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars.

The 426th star to grace the streets of downtown Palm Springs will be unveiled during an afternoon ceremony that is free and open to the public.

“Honoring Wayne Newton is an amazing way to kick-off the new Walk of Stars season,” said Nona Watson, Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce CEO. “We are excited to be part of the celebration.”

“Mr. Las Vegas,” who has performed in the Coachella Valley in the past, is expected to attend the event, slated for 1 p.m. at 100 S. Palm Canyon Drive.

“I am thrilled to be honored with a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars!” Newton, 76, said of the honor. “The iconic and beautiful city of Palm Springs has such legendary Hollywood history and to be included in the company of such entertainment luminaries as Elvis, Frank, and Marilyn, among so many others, is indeed exciting! This is a prestigious honor that I will truly cherish the rest of my life and thank everyone for the unanimous vote!”
