In a response the disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic, three Los Angeles sports franchises have partnered with Staples Center announced Saturday that they will establish a fund to provide financial support to all hourly event staff employees impacted by the suspension of sporting events at the venue.

The NBA’s Lakers and Clippers and the NHL’s Kings are teaming up with Staples to compensate for wages lost by part-time employees scheduled to work at suspended sporting events through the end of those league’s regular seasons, according to a joint press release.

Payments from the fund will be distributed to more than 2,800 active hourly event staff, composed of ushers, security officers, ticket sellers, ticket takers, parking attendants, merchandise staff, food and beverage employees, housekeeping and operations staff and stage hands, among others.
