A jobs expo hosted by Riverside County agencies and private sector entities, mainly from the Coachella Valley, seeking to hire thousands of people, will be held virtually Thursday, and prospects were urged to register ahead of time.
“We have 96 businesses and counting signed up for our Valley-wide Employment Expo, one of the largest job fairs in the Coachella Valley,” Riverside County Supervisor Manuel Perez said. “We know that local businesses are struggling to fill all of their openings … Ultimately, there is dignity in work, providing for family and contributing to society. Please join us.”
The unemployment rate countywide has been declining for months but remains close to 8%.
The career fair will feature multiple county agencies competing with private sector companies to attract qualified applicants.
The Department of Public Social Services and Sheriff’s Department, as well as other law enforcement agencies, are slated to have recruiters available for the online job fair, which will be live from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday.
Registration is available at www.desertjobexpo.com/.
The DPSS has been trying for several years to swell its ranks of In-Home Supportive Services personnel.
“We have a significant and growing need for people who want to help seniors and disabled individuals live safely in their homes, especially in our desert communities,” IHSS Public Authority Director Eva Krottmayer said. “This event is a great chance for job seekers to meet prospective employers, get their questions answered and submit their applications during the event.”
There are currently about 34,000 caregivers providing services to an estimated 40,000 residents countywide, according to the DPSS.
Some of the caregivers are related to the residents who receive services under the system, which is state-mandated. It’s focused on assisting seniors, but disabled adults of any age also qualify. Caregivers offer help with personal grooming, light housekeeping, food service and transportation.
