A break in an 8-inch water main in the Hollywood Hills Monday led to some flooding and a sinkhole on a street.
The problem involving the cast-iron main was reported about 1 a.m. in the 6500 block of Cahuenga Terrace and affected 16 customers, said Carol Tucker of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
The buckling of the roadway surface measured about 6 feet by 5 feet, Tucker said.
LADWP crews were sent to repair the main, which was installed in 1931. The work was continuing early Monday afternoon.
