The number of COVID-positive patients in Riverside County hospitals has increased by two people to 75, according to the latest state figures out Sunday.
Of those patients, 14 were in intensive care, up from six on Saturday.
Those numbers come two days after the Riverside University Health System reported 209 new positive COVID tests and no additional virus-related deaths, bringing the county’s aggregate number of cases to 596,793 and leaving its pandemic death toll at 6,445.
The RUHS does not report COVID data on weekends.
Fatalities are considered trailing indicators because of delays processing death certificates, meaning some deaths may have actually occurred weeks ago, according to health officials. Health officials have said that the vast majority of people who die of COVID complications have underlying conditions, mainly hypertension, diabetes and heart disease.
The number of known active virus cases in the county was 2,850 as of Friday. The active count is derived by subtracting deaths and recoveries from the current total — 596,793. Verified patient recoveries countywide are 587,498.
