The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power has begun its portion of work for LAX’s new Receiving Station-X, which will improve the reliability of electricity delivery to the airport, officials announced Thursday.
The airport’s portion of design and construction on the station, located at the intersection of Pershing Drive and Westchester Parkway, began by Clark Construction in November 2019 and was completed in May.
“The safety, security and reliability of our airport is key for our guests and employees, and this includes ensuring we have reliable power at all times,” said LAWA CEO Justin Erbacci. “This new power receiving station will greatly enhance those capabilities for LAX and our partners alike. We thank LADWP for its ongoing partnership and look forward to the agency commissioning this future airport resource.”
The project was transferred to the DWP for final completion, the airport said Thursday.
The station is meant to address persistent power reliability, redundancy and capacity issues at LAX. It will also improve power quality, and airport officials say it will support LAX’s sustainability goals.
“Our LAX-dedicated receiving station will improve power reliability and resiliency for LAX and the traveling public,” said DWP General Manager and Chief Engineer Martin Adams. “Sustainability and innovation are key elements of this station and the station positions LADWP to better meet LAX’s needs in the years to come.”
