A man was shot and killed Friday outside a bar in South Gate and the suspect was on the run.
The shooting was reported at about 2:30 a.m. Friday in the 5800 block of Imperial Highway, near Garfield Avenue, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The location is just outside the entrance to Auggie’s Bar & Grill at 5810 Imperial Highway, according to the South Gate Police Department watch commander.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics.
A person of interest was detained, according to the watch commander, but after sheriff’s homicide detectives took over the investigation, it was revealed by the sheriff’s department that the shooting was not believed to have been random, but “stemmed from an incident which occurred inside an establishment.”
“The suspect remains outstanding, however, there is no threat to the community,” according to a Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau statement.
A description of the suspect was not immediately available.
