At least one person was injured Wednesday after several vehicles were involved in a collision on Interstate 10, prompting road closures and major backup on the freeway.

The incident was reported at 5:07 a.m. Wednesday on the westbound freeway near Jefferson Street and the Indio Boulevard off-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officials said several vehicles were involved and all three westbound lanes were closed after the crash. Officers were directing vehicles to exit at Monroe Street. A Sigalert was issued shortly before 6 a.m. The westbound lanes reopened by 8:17 a.m.

The CHP later reported that the collision resulted in at least one injury, but did not immediately provide further details.
