A roughly 35-acre fire burning in palm tree groves north of Indio was 75% contained Monday.
Fire crews responded at 5:27 p.m. Sunday to a report of flames in the area of Washington Street and Coyote Song Way, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. In a difficult to access area, about 30-40 acres of palm trees were burning.
“The fire is burning in groves of palm trees, on state parks land,” fire officials said Sunday night. “Firefighters will remain on scene throughout the night and into the morning to monitor the fire.”
By 9 a.m. Monday, firefighters reached 75% containment and were monitoring the fire, according to fire officials. Smoke was expected to be visible in the area.
No evacuations were put in place, and no injures were reported.
