The California Highway Patrol’s Indio office will host an Ice Cream Social mixer Wednesday to work out community issues, explore career opportunities and enhance engagement between the agency and residents.

“This event is a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the Department’s work in Riverside County neighborhoods,” CHP spokesman David Torres wrote in a statement. “The majority of contact law enforcement has with the public often happens during emergencies or emotional situations.”

The mixer will be held from 2-5 p.m. Wednesday at Handel’s Ice Cream shop, 42211 Jackson St., according to Torres.

Local police departments across the country also scheduled similar events to connect with the communities they serve, Torres said.
