A Caltrans project to prevent dirt and rocks from sliding down embankments and onto the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway will employ a helicopter next week to install protective netting.
The work, scheduled for Tuesday, will be focused on an area of the freeway south of Golden Valley Road in Santa Clarita.
“People who live, work or travel in the area may hear and see the helicopter above the freeway between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. (Tuesday),” according to Caltrans. “The schedule is subject to change due to weather or operational reasons.”
Caltrans officials said the helicopter will be used to place heavy wire mesh on a slope alongside the southbound lanes of the freeway.
The work is part of a $16.1 million project to improve and protect slopes from erosion along the 14 Freeway.
