A 75-year-old man was killed Friday when a Ram pickup truck went off a road in the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area in South El Monte, overturned and landed upright in a riverbed.
The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 9:10 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Rosemead and San Gabriel boulevards.
The vehicle landed just south of San Gabriel Boulevard on the eastbound side, the CHP reported. A man was confirmed dead at the scene.
The victim was later identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner as Henry Hollins.
Los Angeles County firefighters worked to gain access to the crash site through an access gate to the Whittier Narrows Dam.
