A 21-year-old Winnetka man was killed Saturday when he got out of his wrecked pickup truck on the Foothill (210) Freeway in Glendora and was struck by a car.

The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 3:57 a.m. Saturday and occurred in westbound lanes of the Foothill Freeway at Sunflower Avenue.

An investigation revealed that the man who died was driving a gray Toyota Tacoma pickup truck when he was involved in a non-injury collision with a big rig, leaving the pickup disabled in middle lanes, according to the CHP.

The man got out of his truck and was standing in the roadway trying to signal passing motorists, the CHP reported.

A gray Volkswagen Jetta driven by a 47-year-old man from Victorville struck the man, who was standing in lanes then rear-ended the disabled pickup truck, the CHP reported.

The Winnetka man was pronounced dead at the scene and the Victorville man was taken by ambulance to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center for treatment of major injuries, the CHP reported.

Alcohol and/or drugs were not believed to have contributed to the crash, the CHP reported.

A SigAlert shut down multiple westbound lanes of the 210 Freeway from 4:13 a.m. to 8:40 a.m.
