A fire broke out in a vacant mobile home in Thousand Palms Tuesday, prompting firefighters to evacuate about 30 cats and 50 dogs from a nearby animal shelter.
The fire was reported shortly after 9:30 a.m. in the 72300 block of Varner Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
No injuries were reported among people or animals, authorities said.
Crews from SoCal Gas and Southern California Edison were called to assist at the scene.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
