Eight weather-monitoring systems stationed across eight schools in the Palm Springs Unified School District were in effect Friday to provide real-time data of temperature, air quality, humidity and sever weather for students and staff safety when outdoors.
District officials reported Wednesday the installation of the Perry Weather Monitoring System, which provides real-time conditions on-site.
Participating schools includes Bubbling Wells Elementary, Rio Vista Elementary, Vista Del Monte Elementary, Palm Springs High School, Cathedral City High School, Rancho Mirage Elementary, Rancho Mirage High School and Desert Hot Springs High School.
Conditions in the system gives information on temperatures in degrees Fahrenheit, air quality index and wet bulb globe temperature, which is a measure of heat stress that accounts for radiant heat from the sun and humidity among other factors.
As of 5 p.m. Friday, temperatures was received at a high of 102 within at least four schools and lows in the upper 90s, according to the Perry Weather Monitoring System.
