A motorcycle rider was killed Tuesday morning on the San Diego (405) Freeway in Irvine.
The crash was reported about 5:45 a.m. on the southbound side of the freeway just north of Bake Parkway.
Early reports from the scene indicated the rider went down and was hit by multiple vehicles.
All of the main southbound lanes were closed with traffic diverted into the high-occupancy vehicle lane.
The Orange County coroner’s office was called to the scene.
It was the second fatal freeway crash in the area in as many days after a 26-year-old Los Angeles man was killed Monday morning in a three-vehicle crash on the northbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway near Sand Canyon Avenue.
