Dr. Carreon Boulevard between Mangrove and Calhoun Streets was reopened Sunday after a DUI hit-and-run crash prompted its closure due to two utility poles being damaged, authorities said.

The crash was reported around 1:15 p.m. Saturday in the northwest corner of Dr Carreon Boulevard and Calhoun Street, where a vehicle hit two utility poles and fled the scene, the Indio Police Department announced.

A witness provided officers the suspect vehicle’s direction of travel, and officers located the vehicle a few blocks away, according to police.

A 30-year-old man was identified as the driver and was uninjured from the crash, according to the police department. He was subsequently arrested and booked into the John Benoit Detention Center on suspicion of driving under the influence and hit-and-run.

Identifying information on the suspect was withheld.

The Imperial Irrigation District responded to the scene and was working to replace the two damaged utility poles. Power remained in the surrounding neighborhoods, but the Indio Assembly of God was temporarily without power.

Anyone with additional information regarding the crash was encouraged to contact the Indio PD at 760-391-4057.
