The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County decreased eight-tenths of a cent Friday to $6.22 one day after dropping one-tenth of a cent and being unchanged on back-to-back days.

The average price is 1.6 cents less than one week ago but 24.1 cents more than one month ago and $1.394 higher than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price has risen $1.526 since the joint U.S./Israel attack on Iran on Feb. 28, moving within 27.4 cents of the record $6.494 set Oct. 5, 2022.

The Orange County average price dropped 1.2 cents to $6.179, after decreasing one-tenth of a cent Thursday and being unchanged Wednesday. It is 2.2 cents less than one week ago but 29 cents more than one month ago and $1.41 higher than one year ago

The Orange County average price has risen $1.543 since the joint U.S./Israel attack on Iran on Feb. 28, moving within 28 cents of the record $6.459 set Oct. 5, 2022.

The streak of decreases follows a 15-day streak of increases totaling 36.1 cents.

“As the conflict in Iran continues, we are seeing ongoing volatility in global oil markets, contributing to fluctuations in gasoline prices at the pump,” Kandace Redd, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s senior public affairs specialist, said in a statement released Thursday.

“In addition, demand typically increases as we head into the summer driving season.”

The national average price dropped six-tenths of a cent to $4.528 following back-to-back increases totaling 3 cents, including 2.3 cents Thursday. It is 1.8 cents less than one week ago but 42 cents more than one month ago and $1.335 higher than one year ago.

The national average price has risen $1.546 since the attack on Iran, moving within 48.8 cents of the record $5.016 set June 14, 2022.
