A multi-vehicle crash on state Route 86 in Coachella prompted a closure of northbound lanes, with no injuries reported.
The crash was reported shortly before 4 a.m. Thursday south of the Dillon Road on-ramp, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said arriving crews encountered a semi truck on it side and a vehicle fully engulfed in flames.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a semi truck traveling at an unspecified speed north of 50th Avenue rear-ended another semi truck. While the two big rigs were stopped, a Ford Crown Victoria collided into one of the semi’s, and the two big rigs caught on fire.
The occupants of all three vehicles were able to self-extricate and complained of pain, but none of the drivers were transported.
The No. 1 lane reopened about 10:41 a.m., the CHP stated.
The cause of the collision was not immediately known.
